Director, Thayne Center for Service & Learning, Salt Lake Community College 2011-present

“Responsible for engaging students, faculty, and staff in the community. To that end, the Director creates the department’s purpose and objectives, and implements it by skillfully directing and managing a team of professional staff.”

Accomplishments:

  • Institutional Recognitions: Carnegie Foundation Community Engagement Classification, President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll, NASPA Civic Learning & Democratic Engagement Lead Consulting Institution, Aspen Institute Service Year Challenge Finalist
  • Co-design Civic Action Plan outlining SLCC’s five Civic Action Strategies to realize the commitments in the Campus Compact Action Statement of Presidents and Chancellors
  • Chair, SLCC Sustainability Committee
  • Oversee SLCC Campus Gardens (3 locations)
  • Oversee SLCC Campus Food Pantries (2 locations)
  • Organize and lead SLCC Peace & Justice Studies efforts- including curricular development
  • Design and implementation of Community Engagement Leave Benefit for all full-time staff of the college to access 24 hours of paid leave time for engagement with approved community partners
  • Institutionalization of three-tier Community Partnership Agreement currently supporting partnerships with over 125 community organizations
  • Graduation of record 44 Civically Engaged Scholars in 2016
  • Host Annual Utah Higher Education Food Summit convening students, faculty, and community organizations from around the state to discuss food systems and food security
  • Successful hiring, onboarding, and development of 3 full-time coordinators
  • Leadership for over 15 student leaders’ growth and progress each academic year
  • Winner 2013 SLCC Innovation of the Year and recognized by League for Innovation in Community College for free training program for Community Partner Organizations
